Stunning Victory: Assam Police Seizes Opium Worth Rs 4 Crore in Karbi Anglong
Assam police made a significant breakthrough in their anti-narcotics efforts by seizing a 16-kilogram opium consignment valued at approximately Rs 4 crore in the Karbi Anglong district on Friday. The haul was intercepted during a routine vehicle check at Old Lahorijan, where a truck traveling from Dimapur was stopped for inspection. Upon examining the vehicle, police discovered the illicit cargo, according to official statements.
Following the discovery, the truck’s driver, Sukhjinder Singh, and his co-pilot, Nandalal Chamar, were arrested and are currently being questioned. The investigation is ongoing as authorities delve deeper into the origins and intended distribution network of the consignment.
This operation highlights Assam’s commitment to intensifying efforts against the transportation and trade of illegal substances within the state. It underscores the vigilance of local law enforcement in combating drug trafficking and maintaining public safety.
In related news, MP Pradyut Bordoloi has called on the Union Railway Minister to urgently reinstate cancelled train services from Assam to accommodate the upcoming Maha Kumbh congregation. The request aims to ensure adequate transportation facilities in light of significant religious gathering.
