Frustration Peaks: Gridlocks Near Guwahati’s Bharalumukh Railway Gates Exasperate Residents
Traffic congestion in Bharalumukh, Guwahati, particularly near railway gates 8, 9, and 10, has become a persistent issue for both commuters and residents. The daily gridlock, exacerbated during peak hours, presents a formidable challenge with no apparent resolution in sight. Local business owner Sandeep Jain shared visuals with GPlus, illustrating the escalating chaos at Gate No. 8. He highlighted the dilemma faced by commuters who encounter long queues each day, further aggravated by errant e-rickshaws disregarding traffic rules and cluttering the roads. Jain also pointed out the ongoing construction near Gate No. 9, which intensifies the rush toward other gates.
Bharalumukh Traffic Police attribute the congestion primarily to the frequent operation of railway gates, with trains passing through the area over five times daily. An official noted, “The public should understand this,” acknowledging the challenges despite deploying traffic officials to manage the situation. However, the lack of a structured solution continues to frustrate local residents.
The growing traffic woes are compounded by an apparent lack of coordination among stakeholders and repeated yet unfulfilled assurances from authorities. This unresolved issue leaves daily commuters navigating a complex obstacle course of gridlocked roads, poor traffic management, and shifting blame between officials and the public. The mounting frustration raises skepticism among residents about whether effective action will ever be taken to address this long-standing problem.
