Don’t Miss Out: Catch the Thrilling IND vs ENG 1st T20I in Kolkata – When & Where to Watch Live!
Following their disappointing performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia, India is shifting focus to white-ball cricket with a series of five T20Is and three ODIs against England. The series kicks off with a T20I match at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on January 22. The Indian side, captained by Suryakumar Yadav, is strengthened by the return of veteran pacer Mohammed Shami, who last played in the ODI World Cup final against Australia in November 2023. Shami is making his return after recovering from a heel injury.
Meanwhile, England welcomes pacer Mark Wood back into the fold, joining Jofra Archer and Jamie Overton to form a formidable pace attack. This marks Wood’s first appearance since August. Historically, India has a slight edge over England in T20Is, with 13 victories to England’s 11 across 24 encounters. Notably, India has won five out of the last seven matches between the two teams since 2021. Their last T20I meeting ended with India’s memorable semi-final win in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup.
The series will traverse across India, starting in Kolkata and moving to Chennai, Rajkot, Pune, and concluding in Mumbai on February 2. Following the T20I series, the teams will contest a three-match ODI series commencing on February 6, serving as a primer for India’s roadmap towards the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
