Unleashing Raw Passion: LACUNA COIL’s Andrea Ferro on the Inspiring Heaviness of ‘Sleepless Empire’
In an interview with Cuero Y Metal, LACUNA COIL’s co-vocalist Andrea Ferro delved into the band’s highly anticipated album, “Sleepless Empire,” set to drop on February 14, 2025, via Century Media Records. Ferro expressed immense excitement, noting the band’s eagerness for fans to finally hear a project they’ve been perfecting for some time. The album is touted as a blend of styles, showcasing a heavier and darker side while maintaining LACUNA COIL’s signature sound. It represents a progression from their 2019 album “Black Anima” and incorporates darker elements from the “Comalies XX” project.
Ferro explained the band’s shift towards a heavier sound began with their 2016 album “Delirium,” coinciding with changes in their lineup that brought fresh styles and influences. The influence of lead songwriter Marco “Maki” Coti Zelati and the evolving music scene also played significant roles in this directional change.
“Sleepless Empire” was largely inspired during sessions for “Comalies XX” and recorded in northern Italy between Milano and Como with production by Coti Zelati. The album features guest vocalists Randy Blythe from LAMB OF GOD and Ash Costello from NEW YEARS DAY. Italian artist Roberto Toderico provided artwork, and a custom oracle game linked to LACUNA COIL’s love for gaming is included in the box set version.
The band recently experienced a lineup change, with Daniele Salomone joining as a guitarist, replacing Diego Cavallotti, who parted ways with the band in 2024. Salomone made his debut at the Rockstadt Extreme Fest in Romania, sharing a musical history with Cavallotti in their previous band, INVERNO.
“Sleepless Empire” promises to be a diverse and intense addition to LACUNA COIL’s discography, fueling anticipation among fans for its release.
