Stunning Bust: Rs 1 Crore Worth of Cough Syrup & Ganja Seized in Cachar, Suspect Apprehended!
In a significant drug bust, police seized codeine phosphate cough syrup and suspected ganja worth approximately Rs 1 crore from a vehicle at the Digarkhal toll gate in Cachar district, near Silchar. Acting on a tip-off, law enforcement intercepted a pickup van traveling from Guwahati to Aizawl on Sunday. During the operation, officers discovered 72 cartons containing 8,640 bottles of codeine-laced cough syrup and two kilograms of what is believed to be ganja. The authorities arrested a man named Joylaldan Thanga, 38, from Durtlang in Aizawl, and confiscated both the illicit substances and the vehicle. Cachar Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta confirmed the operation and mentioned that further investigation is underway. This seizure highlights ongoing efforts by police to curb the illegal distribution of controlled substances in the region.
