Revolutionary Electric Scooter Startup Transforms Gandhinagar’s Last-Mile Connectivity: A Game-Changing Solution
Gandhinagar, the planned capital of Gujarat, has faced challenges with its public transportation system, particularly in ensuring effective last-mile connectivity. Recognizing this gap, a local electric bike startup, White Carbon, launched an innovative solution by deploying single-seater electric scooters at Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) and other campuses. This initiative quickly gained popularity among students and locals who find it cost-effective and convenient.
Manthan Parekh, a GNLU student, shared his positive experience with the service, especially during a holiday outing to Ahmedabad’s kite festival. The inadequacy of existing Metro and double-decker bus services, which only operate along main roads, highlights the demand for more flexible commuting options. Pragya Kanth, a student at Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU), expressed her dissatisfaction with the limitations of current public transport, citing long waiting times and insufficient coverage.
Despite Gandhinagar’s ongoing Metro service trials, local authorities believe additional public transport isn’t necessary. However, students and workers continue to advocate for more comprehensive options that bridge their commuting needs. White Carbon’s solution appears timely; since its launch in January 2024, the startup managed to expand its fleet significantly, providing over 900 rides monthly and covering 16 lakh km in Gandhinagar.
The startup’s scooters, ideal for short-distance travel, are particularly beneficial for students and gig workers. Users pay between Rs 50 for an hour to Rs 290 for a full day, enjoying reliable mobility without the cost of ownership. Plans to expand services to other universities and further contribute to urban mobility through sustainable, electric solutions are underway. White Carbon aims to play a transformative role in Gandhinagar’s transportation landscape, promoting green and efficient commuting while reducing carbon emissions.
