Transformative Breakthrough: Itanagar Municipal Corporation’s Bold Move for Eco-Friendly Waste-to-Charcoal Plant
Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) has entered into a strategic partnership with 7Hills Nexgram to establish a cutting-edge solid waste-to-charcoal facility. This pioneering venture aims to convert the city’s waste into environmentally friendly charcoal, a project poised to revolutionize local waste management efforts.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally signed by IMC Mayor Tamme Phassang, Commissioner Jilen Kago, and 7Hills Nexgram COO Bishwajeet Dey. The waste-to-charcoal plant is expected to be fully functional within four months. IMC is responsible for providing the location and the solid waste required for the facility, which is designed to process an impressive 50 metric tonnes of waste every day, with plans for future expansions.
Mayor Phassang emphasized the project’s crucial role in overcoming waste management challenges, such as the processing of legacy waste and the prevalent issue of non-segregation by waste generators. He hailed the initiative as a significant milestone towards implementing eco-friendly waste management solutions in the city.
COO Bishwajeet Dey pointed out the plant’s innovative technology, which efficiently processes mixed waste without the use of chemicals. The result is a sustainable low-caloric-value charcoal, manufactured without causing any environmental harm. This privately funded project is expected to generate revenue through charcoal production, establishing a model for sustainable waste management practices.
The government of Arunachal Pradesh intends to expand this successful initiative to other districts, positioning it as a template for green urban development across the region. This endeavor not only addresses immediate waste management concerns but also contributes to broader environmental goals, reflecting a commitment to sustainable urban growth.
This significant collaboration marks a promising step towards transformative and sustainable urban development in Arunachal Pradesh, reinforcing the state’s dedication to innovative and environmentally conscious practices.
