Exciting Boost for Rural Health: Meghalaya CM Inaugurates Myriaw Centre, Unveils Rs 38 Lakhs Fund Enhancement
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma recently inaugurated the Rural Health Centre (RHC) in Myriaw, located within the Mawthadraishan constituency in Eastern West Khasi Hills district. The RHC, serving 21 villages, is set to receive an additional funding of Rs 38 lakhs under the CM’s Special Development Fund, with a total sanction of Rs 38.8 lakh for the facility.
Accompanying him were Rajya Sabha MP Dr. W R Kharlukhi and Sports Minister and local MLA Shakliar Warjri. During the event, Chief Minister Sangma emphasized the health sector as one of the state’s most challenging domains. He stressed the ongoing infrastructure reforms and noted significant advancements over the past seven years that have made healthcare more accessible to rural communities.
In his address, Sangma reiterated the government’s dedication to transforming healthcare, demonstrated by Meghalaya’s highest budget allocation for the health sector at 9%, leading the nation. “This is a reflection of the Government’s commitment,” he remarked.
The Myriaw RHC is managed by Dr. H G Roberts Hospital, Shillong, marking it the fourth such center administered by the hospital within the state. Highlighting the power of collaboration, Sangma expressed that partnerships with community groups and organizations like Dr. H G Roberts Hospital are vital for enhancing healthcare accessibility in Meghalaya.
In recognition of Dr. H.G. Roberts Hospital’s efforts, Sangma announced support for infrastructure upgrades at their Shillong facility to introduce Laser Lithotripsy services. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to bolstering healthcare services in the region, aiming to inspire unity and cooperation in the journey towards enhanced healthcare delivery.
