Transformative Leap: Arunachal Cabinet Unveils ₹375-Cr Namsai Medical College & Hospital Project
The Arunachal Pradesh state cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, has approved several significant initiatives to boost the state’s healthcare and infrastructural development. During the first cabinet meeting of 2025, the decision was made to propose a 100-seat Medical College and a 420-bedded hospital in Namsai. This project, estimated to cost ₹375 crore, will be executed under a Public-Private Partnership model as part of the Aspirational District Programme.
In a notable effort to enhance the financial viability of large hydropower projects, the cabinet also approved SGST reimbursement concessions for the Tato II (700 MW) and Kamala (1,720 MW) Hydroelectric Projects. These projects, located in Shi Yomi and Upper Subansiri districts, are expected to generate substantial free power and contribute significantly to the Local Area Development Fund with joint ventures between the state and Central Public Sector Undertakings, with the state holding a 26% equity share.
Furthermore, the cabinet has introduced the Arunachal Pradesh Policy for Restoration of Terminated Large Hydropower Projects 2025, intending to revive stalled undertakings that have shown substantial progress. To further enhance power infrastructure in Kurung Kumey district, the creation of an electrical sub-division at Chambang has been approved, alongside the establishment of a new Public Works Department division at Koloriang and a sub-division at Damin, aimed at accelerating infrastructural developments.
Additionally, various departments, including hydropower development, land management, and the Government Engineering College in Tezu, will see upgraded and newly created positions, thereby improving administrative efficiency.
Collectively, these strategies aim to significantly uplift healthcare, power management, and infrastructure, facilitating regional economic growth and development in Arunachal Pradesh.
