Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi inaugurated the party’s new national headquarters, named “Indira Gandhi Bhawan,” on Wednesday at 9A, Kotla Road in New Delhi. The event was attended by prominent Congress leaders, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, alongside significant figures such as Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
The inauguration ceremony commenced with party leaders hoisting the Congress flag while chanting “Vande Mataram.” The completion of this headquarters comes after 15 years of development, following the foundation stone laid by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi back in December 2009.
“The Indira Gandhi Bhawan is thoughtfully designed with modern facilities to cater to the evolving needs of the Congress party and its leaders,” noted Venugopal, highlighting the building’s role in supporting administrative and strategic activities while acknowledging Congress’s historical significance.
Approximately 400 top Congress figures from across India attended the event, including members from the Congress Working Committee, Pradesh Congress Committee presidents, and former Chief Ministers. The gathering emphasized the party’s forward-looking vision while paying homage to its robust past, which has significantly influenced India’s political and social landscape.
With the inauguration of this state-of-the-art facility, the Congress party aims to streamline its operations and bolster its strategic capacity in the nation’s capital. The new headquarters symbolize a critical step forward as the party navigates the current political environment, looking to regain influence and address contemporary challenges.
