BAREILLY, Jan 13: In a remarkable showdown at the men’s National Boxing Championship, Abhinash Jamwal from Himachal Pradesh continued his impressive streak, overcoming the reigning welterweight champion, Shiva Thapa, in a nail-biting semifinal match. Jamwal has emerged as a standout athlete in the tournament, gaining momentum with significant victories, including a pivotal win over 2022 Youth World Champion Vanshaj Kumar earlier in the event.
The Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) showcased their dominance with eight out of ten boxers advancing to the finals, underscoring their strength in the competition. Highlighting SSCB’s achievements, former World Youth Champion Sachin Siwach achieved a convincing victory against Haryana’s Gorish Pujani in the lightweight (55-60kg) category. Meanwhile, Lakshya Chahar added to the team’s accolades by defeating Mizoram’s Malsawmtluanga in the light heavyweight (75-80kg) division, securing his place in the final rounds.
SSCB’s overwhelming presence in the finals was further ensured by semifinal victories from Jadumani Singh Mandengbram (flyweight), Hitesh (light middleweight), Deepak (welterweight), Jugnoo (cruiserweight), and Vishal (heavyweight), guaranteeing representation across nearly all weight divisions.
In the super heavyweight (90-90+kg) category, Narender of Uttarakhand delivered an impressive performance, outclassing SSCB’s Gaurav Chauhan in their semifinal bout. Narender will face Anshul Gill from Haryana in the final, following Gill’s victory over Raghav Sharma in an intense semifinal clash.
The championship semifinals were fiercely contested, setting the stage for a thrilling finale. Spectators are eagerly anticipating the final bouts, as boxers showcase their strength, skill, and determination in pursuit of national glory.
