Breakthrough Report by Arunachal Experts Unveils Transformative Trade Route Insights
The Arunachal Pradesh government has received a report from an expert study group tasked with preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for reopening trade routes via the Pangsau Pass on the Indo-Myanmar border and the Dongsengmang route through the Darranga Land Customs Station on the Indo-Bhutan border. This significant development was marked by a detailed PowerPoint presentation delivered to the state’s trade and commerce minister, Nyato Dukam, on January 13.
Present at the report submission were Chief Secretary Manish Kumar Gupta and senior officials from critical departments, such as home, planning and investment, finance, tourism, power, and land management. This underscores the broad interest and potential impact across various governmental sectors.
The report emphasizes the historical importance of these trade routes, highlighting their roles in trade, tourism, investment, energy corridors, and cultural exchanges. It also extends its focus to encompass other sectors, including health, education, and natural resources, that could benefit from the Pangsau Pass connecting India with Myanmar and the Dongshengmang/Bletting route linking with Bhutan.
A pivotal element of the study is its examination of the macro-level impacts of reopening these routes. The report indicates that revitalizing these corridors could profoundly enhance cross-border connectivity, spurring considerable development within Arunachal Pradesh. The officials also pointed out that the prospective connectivity aims to facilitate not only international trade with Southeast Asian nations but also broader trade opportunities with the rest of India.
This report suggests a roadmap for robust economic growth in the region, offering avenues for development that extend beyond regional and national boundaries. This visionary approach aligns with Arunachal Pradesh’s objective to emerge as a significant player in international trade networks, thereby contributing to its economic and infrastructural development.
