Sonal Mansingh’s Mesmerizing Dance Performance Enchants Guwahati: A Captivating Journey of Emotion and Grace
Guwahati: The Srimanta Sankaradeva International Auditorium in Guwahati resonated with the rich heritage of Indian classical arts on a crisp January evening, as the esteemed Sonal Mansingh presented her latest work, Bhava-Ganga – The Perennial Flow of Creation. The performance, more than mere entertainment, served as a tribute to the power of art to transcend boundaries and foster unity among people.
This event, a collaboration between the Centre for Indian Classical Dances (CICD) and the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), attracted a diverse audience, including art lovers, cultural enthusiasts, and distinguished guests such as Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, who attended as the Chief Guest.
Dr. Mansingh’s address at the beginning encapsulated the essence of her endeavor, as she described Bhava-Ganga as not just a performance but a profound exploration of India’s spiritual and cultural roots, designed to connect and inspire. Her interpretation masterfully combined dance, music, and storytelling, drawing upon ancient Indian narratives to offer a modern audience a glimpse into universal values and spirituality.
Her deep connection to Assam was evident, as a recipient of the Srimanta Sankardeva Award in 2023, Dr. Mansingh emphasized Assam’s pivotal role in celebrating India’s cultural diversity. She expressed her hope that through initiatives like Bhava-Ganga, these art forms would continue to flourish and reinforce cultural ties.
The evening’s program featured evocative retellings of sacred legends, including Angaavataran (The Descent of Ganga), Kevat Prasang (The Fortunate Boatman), and Varanasi (The Divine Union of Devi Annapoorna and Shiva Mahadev). Each segment enthralled the audience, breathing life into age-old tales and underscoring their continued relevance in contemporary times.
