Union Minister Amit Shah Leads Crucial Conference on Combating Drug Trafficking & Fortifying National Security in New Delhi
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to lead a regional conference on Drug Trafficking and National Security in New Delhi, organized by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). The event addresses the escalating issue of drug trafficking and its implications for national security, emphasizing eight northern states and Union Territories.
Amit Shah will initiate the Drug Disposal Fortnight campaign and also inaugurate the new NCB office complex in Bhopal. Furthermore, the MANAS-2 helpline’s reach will extend to all states and Union Territories.
During the Drug Disposal Fortnight, continuing until the 25th of this month, over 44,000 kilograms of seized narcotics, valued at 2,411 crore rupees in the international market, will be destroyed. The conference will also highlight the sharing of real-time data from the National Narcotics Helpline ‘MANAS’ portal with the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) across States and Union Territories. It will assess the effectiveness of the Narcotics Coordination Mechanism (NCORD) and evaluate progress made by states in curbing drug trafficking.
The Government has adopted a Zero Tolerance Policy towards drug trafficking, with the Ministry of Home Affairs implementing a strategic plan aimed at achieving a drug-free India by 2047. This strategy includes strengthening institutional frameworks, enhancing coordination between narcotics agencies, and conducting massive public awareness campaigns.
By addressing these key areas, the conference highlights the Indian Government’s resolute stance and comprehensive approach to combating drug trafficking, thus safeguarding national security.
