Influential Global Leaders Gather in India: 6,000 Representatives from 75 Nations Unite at Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention
Ashok Mago, a distinguished figure within the Indian-American community and a Padma Shri recipient in 2014, is set to participate in the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) convention in Bhubaneswar. Mago, who is the chairman and CEO of Texas-based Mago & Associates Inc., has significantly contributed to garnering support for the India-US civil nuclear deal in the US Congress. The convention’s theme for 2025 is ‘Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat,’ featuring a virtual address from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will inaugurate the Pravasi Bharatiya Express—a special tourist train traveling from Delhi to various culturally and religiously significant Indian destinations over three weeks.
The PBD event will draw approximately 6,000 business leaders, philanthropists, academicians, and other thought leaders from 75 countries. The sessions will primarily focus on attracting investments, notably for Odisha, which recently transitioned to a BJP government. Notable attendees include Sopnendu Mohanty from the Monetary Authority of Singapore, Rohit Ratnakar Rao of ‘Medrock Corporation,’ and Ashok Kalra of the Mughal Mahal Group.
The event parallels India’s 10th anniversary of the Act East Policy, emphasizing Odisha’s economic potential given its strategic location and resources. Odisha’s sectors like mining, marine economy, and IT are highlighted as investment hotspots. A joint business session will feature External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi interacting with the Indian business diaspora.
Further sessions include ‘Diaspora Dialogues: Stories of Culture, Connection, and Belongingness,’ featuring cultural advocates, and a celebration of women’s leadership. Youth Affairs Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will oversee discussions on ‘Diaspora Youth Leadership.’ This strategic engagement with the diaspora underscores the ongoing efforts by the Indian government to leverage overseas communities for political and economic collaboration.
