Urgent Rescue Mission: Desperate Efforts to Save Lives at Dima Hasao Coal Mine Through the Night
Guwahati: Ongoing Rescue Operations for Trapped Miners in Dima Hasao
Rescue operations are underway at a coal mine in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, where 15 miners remain trapped after the mine flooded on Monday, January 6th. The operations will persist through the night as efforts intensify to reach the miners, who are feared to be in a precarious situation.
Defence PRO in Guwahati announced on social media platform X that adequate lighting arrangements have been set up to facilitate the ongoing rescue mission. Divers from the Army and Assam Rifles made two attempts to enter the mine during the day, although adverse conditions have proved challenging.
Additional support arrived with Indian Navy divers, who traveled from Vishakhapatnam to join the multi-agency rescue team. Personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), along with local police, are also actively involved in the operation. Reports indicate that the water level inside the flooded mine has reached a depth of 100 feet, complicating rescue efforts.
In a related development, police have arrested Punish Nunisa, the mine’s owner, for allegedly operating without the necessary authorization. This arrest followed a complaint lodged by the Assam Mineral Development Corporation Ltd, which raised concerns about the legality of the mining operations.
Efforts continue as authorities and rescue teams work tirelessly to bring the trapped miners to safety, amidst hopes for a successful outcome.
