Urgent Mission: Heroic Indian Army Rushes to Rescue Trapped Workers in Assam’s Umrangso Coal Mine
A distressing incident on January 6, 2025, in Umrangso, a remote industrial town in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, has left several miners trapped due to a sudden flood at a coal mine. Responding to this urgent crisis, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called for immediate assistance, prompting the Indian Army to mobilize a specialized Relief Task Force to aid in the rescue efforts.
The operation, meticulously planned and launched on the same day, involves a highly trained team of divers, engineers, and rescue personnel. Equipped with cutting-edge tools and resources, the task force operates under the guidance of a senior officer to navigate the intricacies of the rescue mission. The mine, located in the 3 Kilo area of Umrangso, is particularly challenging, as it reaches a depth of around 300 feet with water levels having risen to about 100 feet due to the flooding.
In close coordination with civil authorities, the rescue teams, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), are tirelessly working to ensure the quick and safe extraction of the trapped laborers. The flooding has significantly complicated rescue efforts, making the mission both perilous and complex.
Chief Minister Sarma has been actively involved, sharing updates and expressing concern on social media. He revealed a list of missing laborers and highlighted the uncertainties regarding their condition. His social media post read, “Distressing news from Umrangso, where laborers are trapped in a coal mine. The exact number and status are yet unknown. Praying to God for everyone’s safety.” Additionally, he confirmed that the Army’s involvement aims to bolster efforts and expedite the rescue process.
As the authorities work against the clock, the situation remains tense, with focus and prayers directed toward the safety and swift recovery of those trapped in this mining disaster.
