Urgent Action: Mizoram’s Core Committee Tackles Human Metapneumovirus Outbreak with Determination
The Mizoram government is proactively addressing the recent outbreak of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) reported in China, alongside five confirmed cases in India, by forming a ‘Core Committee on HMPV.’ Health Minister Lalrinpuii will head the committee, aiming to effectively manage and monitor the health situation within the state. On Tuesday, state health department officials confirmed that Rapid Response Teams have been mobilized both at the state and district levels, following discussions led by Minister Lalrinpuii the previous evening.
The Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) is actively supervising the situation, ensuring constant vigilance. So far, there has been no unusual rise in cases resembling Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) or Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) in Mizoram. Additionally, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and its associated laboratories reported no significant increase in HMPV, adenovirus, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), or similar respiratory infections nationally.
These moves reflect Mizoram government’s commitment to maintaining public health safety and readiness in the face of emerging infectious threats. The coordinated efforts between state and national health bodies demonstrate a comprehensive response to monitor and potentially mitigate the spread of the virus effectively.
