GUWAHATI: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Assam police seized heroin valued at approximately ₹3.2 crore and apprehended an individual involved in smuggling activities from a neighboring state. The operation took place on Saturday night, January 4, at Silchar’s Kathal Road, acting on a tip-off bolstered by credible intelligence.
During the operation, law enforcement officials stopped a motorcycle for inspection and discovered 635 grams of heroin. The motorcycle’s rider was immediately arrested in connection with the narcotics.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the police for their rapid and effective action in combating the drug problem, confirming the successful seizure on Sunday. Authorities have commenced further investigations to dismantle the broader network involved in this illegal trade.
