Devastating Blaze in Moreh: Massive Fire Destroys 15 Homes, Leaving Community Heartbroken and Two Injured
A devastating fire ravaged Moreh town in Manipur, near the India-Myanmar border, on Sunday, January 5, injuring two and destroying over 15 houses. The fire erupted in the Mission Veng area of Tengnoupal district. Both the Assam Rifles and Manipur Fire Services promptly responded, swiftly containing the blaze to prevent further destruction, but not before it engulfed between 15 to 20 homes.
Among the injured were Kuki tribals C Chongloi and his wife, who suffered minor injuries. Chongloi was transported to Churachandpur district hospital, while his wife received care at the Moreh Primary Health Centre. The fire impacted several families, destroying homes belonging to individuals such as Mamang Touthang, Thangolet Thouthang, and Letmisen Chongloi.
Firefighting efforts involved four fire tenders, including two from Moreh Fire Service Station and two from Tamu, Myanmar. Despite these efforts, seven semi-pucca houses succumbed to the flames.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire, highlighting the need for improved fire safety measures in the region.
