Breaking: Teibor Pathaw’s Shocking Resignation from KHADC EC – Impact on Meghalaya MDC Polls
In a notable political development in Shillong, Teibor Pathaw, a member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), has stepped down from the Executive Committee (EC), this Monday. His resignation signifies a pivotal shift in the political landscape as elections approach. Pathaw has decided to contest the upcoming elections as an independent candidate from Mawlai, attracting considerable public attention.
The resignation, submitted to KHADC Chief Executive Member Pyniaid Syiem, was influenced by a recent public meeting held at Mawlai Nonglum. Here, locals urged Pathaw to dissociate from the National People’s Party (NPP) and pursue an independent candidacy. Respecting the collective voice of his constituents, Pathaw announced his plan to represent Mawlai independently in the forthcoming electoral race.
In parallel developments, the NPP has announced its candidate for the Jirang constituency after incumbent Member District Council (MDC) Victor Rani resigned. Following deliberations in Byrnihat, the NPP Jirang Block leadership, which includes representatives from the National People’s Youth Front (NPYF) and the women’s wing, unanimously nominated current MLA Sosthenes Sohtun as their official candidate. This decision concluded a brief yet competitive selection process amid Rani’s resignation.
Though the party received applications from aspirants Kitboklang Khongiong, Balawan Syiemiong, and Albertus Lapang, the endorsement ultimately went to Sohtun. The choice was driven by time constraints and the need for experienced leadership following Rani’s departure.
With election campaigns on the verge of intensifying, the region is poised for a dynamic and closely contested electoral season. The unfolding political developments promise to keep the region and its electorate engaged and attentive to the upcoming shifts in leadership dynamics.
