Stunning Crackdown: 7kg Ganja Seized, 91 Arrested in Naharlagun’s Bold ‘Operation Dawn’ – 2024 Breakthrough in Arunachal Pradesh Crime Sweep
In 2024, the Naharlagun Police in Arunachal Pradesh made significant strides in their fight against drug abuse with the successful implementation of ‘Operation Dawn.’ The operation led to the seizure of over 500 grams of heroin, 7 kilograms of cannabis, and various other narcotics. Furthermore, 91 individuals were arrested, and 41 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act were registered within the year, according to a statement by the Naharlagun Superintendent of Police, Mihin Gambo.
The police confiscated 588.42 grams of heroin, 7,042.5 grams of cannabis, 48 grams of Lorazepam, and 233.81 grams of Morphine from multiple peddlers. Gambo highlighted a marked improvement in case detection and stricter actions against drug peddlers compared to the previous year, reflecting the operation’s success. This crackdown not only curbed drug-related offences but also had a significant impact on the general crime rate in the region.
Notably, thefts and burglaries often linked to drug addiction saw a sharp decline, with over 152 such cases registered last year. ‘Operation Dawn’ was crucial in cutting the supply of illegal drugs and preventing numerous young people from falling into addiction. The collaborative efforts of the police and community played an essential role in enhancing safety and security in the region.
As part of the initiative, the police conducted extensive awareness campaigns in schools, colleges, and rehab centers, urging youth to avoid drugs. These campaigns encouraged many to seek help for addiction and participate in de-addiction programs. SP Gambo expressed gratitude to Naharlagun residents for their ongoing support and emphasized community involvement in battling drug abuse. Looking ahead, the police are preparing to launch ‘Operation Dawn 2.0’ with a continued focus on achieving a drug-free society.
