Shocking Legal Battle: Diljit Dosanjh’s Controversial Lyrics Spark Outrage at Ludhiana Concert
Diljit Dosanjh, the popular singer and actor, finds himself at the center of a legal storm following his New Year’s Eve concert in Ludhiana, part of his Dil-Luminati India Tour. The event’s controversy stems from a complaint about Dosanjh performing songs with alcohol references, notably ‘Patiala Pegg’, ‘5 Tara Theke’, and ‘Case (Jeeb Vicho Feem Labbiya)’. The complaint was filed by Punditrao Dharenavar, an assistant professor from Chandigarh, who expressed concerns about the influence of these songs on young audiences.
As reported by ANI, the complaint has prompted action from the Punjab Government. The Deputy Director of the Women and Child Department issued a formal notice to the Ludhiana District Commissioner, urging local authorities to ensure that Dosanjh refrains from performing these particular tracks during his live performances. This legal attention is not unprecedented for Dosanjh; he has previously received warnings from various commissions about these songs, which are criticized for glorifying alcohol consumption.
The legal proceedings are supported by a 2019 ruling from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. This judgment directs the police to prevent songs promoting alcohol, drugs, or violence from being played at public events, underscoring the potential harm such content could have on children in attendance. Dharenavar also criticized the singer for wearing a pagadi, a traditional headpiece, while performing these songs, arguing that it might convey disrespectful messages to his audience.
This is not Dosanjh’s first brush with legal scrutiny regarding his lyrics. In early 2024, he received a legal notice due to similar complaints during a Hyderabad concert, and at a show in Indore, he faced accusations of black market ticket sales.
