Exciting News: Guwahati Welcomes Dynamic New Police Commissioner with Renewed Hope!
Senior Assam police officer, Partha Sarathi Mahanta, has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police for Guwahati, replacing Diganta Barah. This change forms part of a significant reshuffling of senior police officials announced by the Assam government today. Mahanta, a 2006 batch IPS officer, previously served as the Joint Commissioner of Police in Guwahati, where he oversaw critical areas such as crime and intelligence. Earlier this year, he was promoted to the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP).
Diganta Barah, the former Commissioner, has been reassigned as the Inspector General of Police (SB) and will also serve as the Director of the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon. The reshuffle extends to several other senior positions, with IPS Akhilesh Kumar Singh now appointed as the Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) while keeping his roles as Inspector General of Police (Communication) and Inspector General of Police (T&AP).
In other key appointments, IPS Lachit Baruah will continue as the Managing Director of Assam Police Housing Corporation Ltd., and IPS Prasanta Kumar Bhuyan is moving from his role as Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) to Inspector General of Police (Admin). Meanwhile, IPS Vivek Raj Singh will take on the responsibilities of Inspector General of Police (T&AP) alongside his current roles as Inspector General of Police (MPC) and Inspector General of Police (BTAD).
These strategic appointments and transfers reflect the Assam government’s ongoing efforts to enhance the effectiveness of law enforcement in the state, ensuring experienced leadership is in place at critical positions.
