Breaking News: Assam Police Heroically Apprehend Dangerous Terrorist Linked to Jihadi Outfits in Kokrajhar
The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police achieved a significant victory in their fight against terrorism by arresting prime suspect Gazi Rahman in Kokrajhar district on Monday. Rahman, 35, is believed to be associated with the jihadist groups Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT). His detention marks a crucial point in Operation Praghat, a widespread initiative targeting anti-national undertakings across the state. Inspector General of Police (STF) Partha Sarathi Mahanta confirmed the arrest, stating that Rahman was captured with the help of Kokrajhar Police, and noted that legal actions are in progress with investigations ongoing.
This development adds to a string of successful apprehensions under Operation Praghat. Recently, on December 27, the STF captured Shahinur Islam, 36, in Dhubri district. The raid conducted in Bandhabpara, Bilasipara, uncovered compromising materials, such as Urdu-language books, identification papers, and electronic gadgets.
Earlier, on December 24, the STF thwarted a possible terrorist attack in Kokrajhar’s Namapara area, linked to an international terror group. Two individuals, Abdul Zaher Sheikh and Sabbir Mirdha, were arrested, and a sizeable cache of weapons, explosives, and IED-making materials was seized. Among the items confiscated were handmade rifles resembling AK-47s, live bullets, and explosive devices.
Since the launch of Operation Praghat, the STF has detained 12 suspects connected to jihadist networks in Assam, West Bengal, and Kerala. These coordinated efforts highlight Assam Police’s dedication to dismantling terror networks and ensuring the safety of the state. The police continue their investigation to completely dismantle these threatening networks, keeping the public’s security as their utmost priority.
