Unforgettable Spiritual Journey: Thousands Flock to Dangaria Baba Temple in Arunachal for Vibrant Annual Fair
The Dangaria Baba Puja and Mela, an annual festival celebrated on the last Saturday of the year at Raneghat, drew a diverse crowd of devotees from multiple religious backgrounds. This year’s event saw enthusiastic participation from locals and visitors nationwide, all converging at the temple to pay homage to Dangaria Baba, a nature deity revered across faiths for his alleged supernatural powers.
Beginning early on Saturday, hundreds of devotees lined up at the temple complex, while the surrounding fair buzzed with stalls from vendors hailing from Pasighat and nearby regions like Jonai, Silapathar, and Dibrugarh. The event was graced by Tapi Darang, the MLA of Pasighat East, who underlined the temple’s importance as a significant religious tourism site within the region. Darang noted the temple’s unique ability to attract followers from various religions, including Muslims, Christians, and indigenous faiths like Donyi-Polo.
The temple, established during the construction of the Pasighat-Pangin road in the mid-1960s, has a history of reported divine interventions, with accidents reportedly ceasing soon after its founding. Retired Chief Engineer Er. Atop Lego recounted the temple’s origin and its reputed healing powers for countless devotees over the years.
Under a large Banyan tree near the Siang Bridge, the temple’s popularity continues to grow, drawing pilgrims from myriad religious backgrounds. Celebrations began in 1962 with PWD engineers seeking protection during road construction. Testaments to its inclusive nature, such as a Muslim painter refurbishing the temple, hint at its broad appeal.
As attendance rises annually, calls are intensifying for Dangaria Baba temple’s development into a premier tourist site, potentially boosting the local economy. Arunachal Pradesh’s Tourism Department is urged to recognize its potential as a pilgrimage destination, complementing other regional sites like Parsuram Kundh and Bismak Nagar, enhancing the state’s religious and cultural tourism offerings.
