Remarkable Surge: Tripura’s Solar Energy Generation Skyrockets Tenfold, Celebrates Union Minister
Agartala: During a two-day visit to Tripura, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi lauded the region’s advancements in renewable energy. On December 29, he emphasized that Tripura has significantly increased its solar energy production from 2.5 MW to over 20.5 MW in six and a half years. Minister Joshi’s visit included participation in central programs, a visit to the Maa Tripura Sundari temple, and attending the Prime Minister’s radio address in Gomati district.
In Sepahijala district, Joshi inspected a renewable energy project by TREDA and assessed New and Renewable Energy Ministry schemes. Under the PM-KUSUM Scheme, 27 solar pumps have been installed, covering 54 acres for agriculture, along with 35 solar-powered streetlights.
Joshi also discussed India’s efforts in food security, highlighting the distribution of free grains to 81 crore underprivileged citizens through the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, heralding significant progress in Tripura with over 1.2 lakh metric tons of rice benefiting 94,000 farmers.
Focusing on renewable goals, he outlined India’s target of 500 GW of renewable capacity by 2030. Current initiatives, including the National Green Hydrogen Mission and PLI scheme for solar modules, are central to this pursuit. Joshi urged increased public awareness in Tripura for the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, which provides substantial benefits through MNRE subsidies and low-interest loans for electricity savings.
Acknowledging the state’s reliance on gas-based power, Joshi advocated solar energy adoption to reduce costs and fulfill Renewable Purchase Obligations. He praised the BJP-led state government’s role in achieving over 20.5 MW in solar output, declaring Tripura’s renewable advancements as outstanding.
