Heartfelt Tribute: Sonowal Honors Brave Young Sikh Martyrs on Veer Bal Diwas | Guwahati News
Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, paid homage to Sahibzadas Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh at an event in Dibrugarh on Veer Bal Diwas. This day, observed annually on December 26, marks the martyrdom of the youthful sons of Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru. On this day in 1705, the young boys, aged nine and six, were captured by the Mughal forces led by Wazir Khan. Despite their age, they refused to abandon their Sikh faith or convert to Islam, resulting in being executed by being bricked alive.
Sonowal emphasized the importance of remembering the Sahibzadas’ bravery and commitment to their faith, urging that their sacrifices should continue to inspire future generations. The observation, declared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year, underscores the remembrance of their unwavering principles in the face of persecution. Sardar Gurdev Singh, president of the Gurdwara committee, praised the Sahibzadas as some of the youngest martyrs in Indian history, symbolizing faith triumphant over fear.
The commemoration, held at Shri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara, included prayers and kirtan, and concluded with a langar, embodying Sikh values of community service. Several community leaders attended the event, including Assam Tourism Development Council Chairman Rituparna Baruah and Dibrugarh Deputy Mayor Ujjal Phukon, among others. The event not only honored the courage and sacrifice of the young martyrs but also reinforced the enduring legacy of their faith and principles in Indian history.
