Enchanting Midnight Bells: Heartwarming Carols Spark Joy in Dibrugarh’s Christmas Festivities
In Dibrugarh, the spirit of Christmas filled the air as the ringing of midnight bells and carols heralded the start of festive celebrations. The events began with Bishop Albert Hemrom leading prayers at the Dibrugarh diocese’s cathedral parish, emphasizing values of love, forgiveness, and compassion. He reminded attendees to help those in need during this joyful season.
At the heart of the festivities was the historic Roman Catholic church in Khalihamari, which has been a spiritual landmark since 1931. It drew visitors from all faiths who participated in prayers and lit candles at the Virgin Mary’s pedestal. Children added to the festive atmosphere by performing nativity plays, much to the delight of the audience.
The Missionaries of Charity at Boiragimoth played a significant role by organizing prayers for the needy and distributing fruits and cakes to residents of their charity home. Other churches across Dibrugarh, including the Baptist Church at Jail Road and the Church of Jesus Christ at Kadamoni, also hosted special prayer sessions.
Residents, such as Roselyn Ekka and Jesinta Tirkey, expressed how Christmas in Dibrugarh fosters a sense of unity and community by bringing together people of diverse faiths to celebrate. The annual tradition has evolved into an inclusive occasion, nurturing communal harmony and collective joy.
This year’s celebrations highlighted the rich Christian heritage of the region and illustrated the universal appeal of Christmas as a time for reflection, unity, and generosity.
