Shocking: BJD Challenges EC Over ‘Discrepancies’ in Odisha Poll Data – A Fight for Fairness!
A delegation from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission on Monday, highlighting discrepancies observed during recent state elections. The BJD pointed out inconsistencies between votes cast and votes counted at several polling booths. For instance, Booth No. 57 in the Phulbani constituency reported a deviation of 682 votes, while Booth Nos. 165 and 219 in the Talsara constituency showed differences of 660 and 784 votes, respectively. The party questioned the accuracy of the vote count, emphasizing that the figures reported by the Returning Officer should align with those documented by the Presiding Officer.
Furthermore, the BJD noted a disparity between votes cast for the Lok Sabha and the state Assembly elections, despite both being conducted simultaneously. Reported variations include a difference of 4,056 votes in Dhenkanal, 3,521 votes in Kandhamal, and 2,701 votes in Bolangir.
Additionally, the BJD highlighted inconsistencies between the vote percentages released by the Election Commission at 11:45 p.m. on election day and the final results published two days later, raising concerns about the voting process’s transparency. The party urged the Commission to address these issues promptly.
Clarifying the party’s stance, delegation members Amar Patnaik and Rajya Sabha MP Sasmit Patra stated that the BJD independently examined the discrepancies and their memorandum is separate from the demands of the Opposition INDIA bloc, which has also raised concerns about the reliability of electronic voting machines and discrepancies in voter turnout figures.
The BJD’s move seeks to ensure transparency in the electoral process, underscoring the importance of accuracy and integrity for the health of democracy.
