Tragic Road Accident Claims Life of American Biker in Assam
In a tragic incident in Assam’s Hojai district, 63-year-old American motorcyclist Elaine Berry Thompson lost her life on Saturday following a road accident in the Lumding area. Thompson was traveling from Silchar to Dhemaji on her Royal Enfield Himalayan motorcycle when a speeding Ashok Leyland truck collided with her. The driver of the truck fled the scene immediately after the accident.
Police were alerted to the incident at around 12:45 PM. Rupam Bordoloi, the Additional Superintendent of Police for the Hojai district, confirmed Thompson’s identity. Despite efforts to transport her to the hospital, she was declared dead upon arrival. Preliminary investigations indicate that she may have been involved in social work during her visits to India, where she had been riding solo for the past five to six years.
The authorities have since seized the truck involved in the accident, and further investigations are ongoing. The incident highlights the growing concerns over road safety in the region, particularly involving speeding vehicles. Thompson was known for her engagement in biking activities, making this loss felt deeply within the riding community.
