Assam’s Triumphant Return: Unleashing Sporting Spirit at National Games After 17-Year Hiatus!
Guwahati, Dec 20: After a 17-year hiatus, Assam is poised to make a triumphant return to the National Games, scheduled for 2025 in Uttarakhand, thanks to the outstanding efforts of the 2023-24 Santosh Trophy team. This achievement underscores the tireless commitment of Assam’s players, staff, and coaches, highlighted by the team’s impressive run to the quarterfinals in the national football championship, where they narrowly lost to Manipur, securing their qualification for the upcoming National Games.
“The return to the National Games is a significant milestone for us,” commented Assam Football Association (AFA) General Secretary Sangrang Brahma. “Our players and coaches have worked tirelessly, and we are confident they will bring glory to Assam.”
The team’s exceptional performance is attributed to rigorous preparations and training sessions conducted in Kokrajhar, sponsored by the Government of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Assam’s defense shone brightly in the Santosh Trophy, maintaining unblemished victories, which now fuels hopes and ambitions for the state’s success in the National Games.
Excitement is palpable among the team, with coach Subam Rabha expressing his elation. “This moment ranks among the best for Assam. Our team has shown remarkable dedication, and we aspire not only to participate but to aim for a gold medal. The support from the people of Assam has been incredible,” he remarked.
Assam’s football community is infused with optimism as they gear up for the National Games, rekindling dreams of reclaiming past glories, reminiscent of their 2007 gold medal success when Guwahati hosted the Games. The victory in the Santosh Trophy has ignited a renewed fervor, setting the stage for an eagerly anticipated performance in 2025.
