Shocking Exposé: 21 ‘Fake Universities’ Uncovered in India, 8 in Delhi – A Must-Read Alert!
In New Delhi, on December 16, the Indian government took a firm stance against the operation of 21 “fake universities” across the country. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan informed the Lok Sabha that state governments are actively taking measures against these fraudulent institutions. The list of these fake universities is accessible on the University Grants Commission (UGC) website. Notably, Delhi is home to eight of these unauthorized entities.
To safeguard students from being misled, the Central government has urged all state and Union Territory Chief Secretaries to initiate legal proceedings to shut down these bogus institutions. The Minister emphasized that beyond disseminating awareness through public notices on social media and the UGC’s platform, the government has lodged FIRs and issued warning notices to these self-proclaimed universities peddling invalid degrees.
Additionally, Minister of State for Education, Sukanta Majumdar, announced an increase of Rs 2,875.29 crore in the Department of Higher Education’s budget for 2024-25, elevating the total budget to Rs 47,619.77 crore, up from Rs 44,744.48 crore in the previous fiscal year. This increment underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing the higher education sector.
Addressing inquiries regarding public expenditure in Rajasthan, the Minister revealed that Rs 556.86 crore has been allocated till November 30, 2024, to three Centrally Funded Higher Education Institutions in the state: IIT Jodhpur, Malaviya National Institute of Technology Jaipur, and the Central University of Rajasthan. Furthermore, Rs 535.99 crore was earmarked for establishing IIM Udaipur and IIIT Kota.
This comprehensive approach highlights the Indian government’s dual commitment to curbing educational malpractice and investing in genuine educational infrastructure, ensuring that students across the nation receive legitimate and quality education.
