Sikkim Shines Bright: Hornbill Festival 2024 Concludes with Unforgettable Enthusiasm
The Hornbill Festival 2024 wrapped up triumphantly at the Naga Heritage Village in Kisama, marking 25 years of celebrating Nagaland’s rich cultural heritage. Known as the “Festival of Festivals,” this year’s event took place from December 1st to 10th and featured an impressive turnout, drawing global attention to Nagaland’s traditions and encouraging inter-state and international cultural exchanges.
A highlight of the festival was the significant involvement of Sikkim and Telangana as Partner States, which enriched the event’s inclusivity and grandeur. Sikkim, led by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, made a vibrant presence with a delegation comprising officials and representatives from various departments, such as Handloom and Handicrafts, Tourism, and Culture. Noteworthy figures like Sikkim’s Tourism Minister, Tshering Thendup Bhutia, and renowned artisans such as Padmashree Jordan Lepcha showcased Sikkim’s tourism, culture, and craftsmanship. Performances by Sikkim’s cultural troupes and eco-tourism exhibits captivated audiences, highlighting the state’s expertise in bamboo crafts and sustainable agriculture.
The festival concluded with a cultural extravaganza under the “Culture Connect” theme. The event featured two sessions, hosted by Nagaland’s ministers, showcasing the unique music, dance, and attire of the state’s tribes. A poignant farewell song, “Acham Khün,” performed by the Yimkhiung community, symbolized closure by likening the setting sun to the end of an event. This heartfelt performance expressed gratitude to Nagaland’s government and acknowledged the dedication of attendees from afar.
As the festival marked its silver jubilee, it stood as a testament to the cultural fusion between Nagaland’s tribal traditions and Sikkim’s Himalayan charm. The strong collaboration between Nagaland and Sikkim set a benchmark for future cultural events, promoting unity and mutual respect. Departing participants hailed the festival as a resounding success, leaving with cherished memories and strengthened camaraderie.
