Shocking Twist in Sandeshkhali: Kolkata Police Debunks Tribal Woman’s Rape Claims
Police in North 24 Parganas district are investigating the murder of an 18-year-old tribal girl whose body was discovered in a pond in Sandeshkhali. The preliminary investigation indicates homicide, with no immediate signs of sexual assault, according to authorities. The girl’s family has alleged that she was raped and murdered. Her body was found on Saturday, four days after she went missing, with her hands and legs bound and a brick tied to her waist, suggesting she was thrown into the water.
The police suspect someone familiar to the victim may be involved and continue to question potential suspects. Forensic experts have collected critical evidence, and their findings are being documented via videography to maintain transparency in the proceedings.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of the incident and urged the West Bengal DGP to accelerate the investigation. The NCW has also received reports of alleged police negligence and possible collusion with local anti-social elements, promising the victim’s family that justice will be pursued rigorously. Dr. Archana Majumdar from the NCW emphasized the need for vigilance against such crimes and called for accountability among law enforcement.
The victim, who had recently completed her high school education, leaves behind a family demanding urgent action and justice. The case has raised concerns about the safety of women and girls in the region, with calls for stricter law enforcement to prevent similar incidents in the future.
