Transformative Initiative: Assam Governor Unveils Ambitious Statewide 100-Day TB Elimination Campaign
Guwahati: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya has initiated a vigorous 100-day campaign aimed at eradicating tuberculosis (TB) in Assam, supporting the Prime Minister’s vision for a TB-free India by 2025. This concerted effort will specifically target 17 high-priority districts, with activities centered on extensive screening, identifying at-risk groups, and bolstering community involvement.
During the launch event at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Governor Acharya underscored the substantial socio-economic impact of TB, which disproportionately affects impoverished communities. He advocated for grassroots-driven initiatives and highlighted Assam’s unique approach of integrating TB services into Health and Wellness Centres. Further emphasizing specialized care, these efforts extend to the state’s tea garden and char areas.
The Governor commended the Ni-kshay Mitra campaign, which has garnered robust participation from the corporate and public sectors. With over 8,200 Ni-kshay Mitras enlisted, prominent organizations, including OIL India, ONGC, GAIL India, and Power Grid Corporation of India, are providing essential support to TB patients.
Confident in Assam’s leadership in TB eradication in the Northeast, Governor Acharya declared, “Together, we can and will end TB. Assam will set an example in this fight against tuberculosis.”
This aggressive 100-day campaign not only reflects Assam’s commitment but also serves as an inspiration for collective action towards eliminating TB, aligning with national goals.
