Breaking: Devendra Fadnavis Becomes Maharashtra CM in Historic Turn; Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar as Dynamic Deputy CMs
GUWAHATI: In a significant political development, Devendra Fadnavis of the BJP was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra at a ceremony held at Azad Maidan, Mumbai, on December 5. This marks his return to the role after a five-year hiatus. The swearing-in event witnessed the formation of the Mahayuti government, with Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar assuming roles as deputy chief ministers.
The ceremony was attended by high-profile dignitaries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and JP Nadda. Other political figures present included chief ministers Yogi Adityanath, Pushkar Singh Dhami, Chandrababu Naidu, and Nitish Kumar. Notably, Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Ranbir Kapoor were in attendance, alongside industrial magnates Mukesh Ambani, Anil Ambani, and Kumar Mangalam Birla, and former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar with his wife Anjali.
In his first cabinet meeting, Fadnavis emphasized the administration’s commitment to rapid and sustainable development. He assured that the government would continue its momentum for Maharashtra’s progress while focusing on fulfilling the promises outlined in their manifesto.
However, the ceremony faced a hiccup when Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde deviated from the protocol during his oath by delivering a speech in praise of Modi, Amit Shah, and the Maharashtrian people. This breach of procedure highlighted the importance of adhering to the formal script in such official events, as deviations have previously required retaking oaths.
The event underscored the BJP’s strategic positioning in Maharashtra and the commitment to delivering on developmental promises, despite the brief procedural disruption.
