Assam Congress Chief Shakes the Nation: Alleges CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s Political Conspiracy Unmasked!
Assam Congress Chief, Bhupen Borah, has delivered strong criticism against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging his involvement in a “political conspiracy.” Borah’s statements, released in a video dated December 6, specifically target Sarma’s controversial comments about potentially banning beef consumption in Assam. Borah challenged Sarma’s suggestion that he should formally request the Chief Minister to implement such a ban, posing the question, “Does the Chief Minister take actions based on what I ask him to do?”
He reiterated that the Congress party has always championed the cultural and religious diversity of Assam, asserting, “We have never interfered with the eating habits or cultural practices of individuals.” This stance contrasts with the BJP and RSS, who Borah claims, advocate for cow worship and oppose cow slaughter, without respecting Assam’s diverse communities’ dietary customs stemming from their cultural traditions.
Moreover, Borah emphasized the Congress’s commitment to upholding the Constitutional guarantee of freedom, a stance he claimed is uniquely defended by his party. He also referenced the historical figure Chaolung Sukapha, founder of the Ahom Kingdom, who respected cultural diversity and did not impose his beliefs on others. Borah highlighted that, unlike Sukapha’s inclusive governance, the BJP and RSS are accused of attempting to impose their perspectives on the state.
This conflict over beef consumption reflects broader concerns over cultural autonomy and governmental overreach in Assam, with Borah framing the issue as a test of the state’s commitment to constitutional freedoms and diversity. The Congress leader’s remarks underscore his party’s positioning as a defender of plurality against perceived encroachments by the ruling party.
