Controversial Temple Construction at Kushiyara River Suspended: Tensions Rise with Bangladesh Border Guard
The reconstruction of the Mansa Temple, a historic site near the Kushiyara River border, has been unexpectedly halted due to objections from Bangladesh’s Border Guard (BGB). Once a revered shrine to Goddess Mansa, the temple had deteriorated over time. In an effort to restore its cultural and spiritual significance, ₹3 lakh from a Member of Parliament’s funds were allocated for rebuilding, with work starting a few days ago.
The situation escalated when BGB personnel from the Jakiganj region of Bangladesh arrived by boat, protesting the construction activities. This confrontation was documented on camera, prompting India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to intervene. To prevent further border tensions, the BSF advised suspending the reconstruction efforts.
Local eyewitnesses have voiced their concerns, seeking clarity about the temple’s future. This incident is prompting discussions on cross-border issues and the complexities of carrying out development projects in sensitive areas. The resolution of this matter remains awaited, with further developments anticipated to impact both diplomatic relations and regional stability.
