Heartfelt Tribute: Mangaldai United Club Honors Er. Kula Dhar Saharia on First Death Anniversary
On Sunday, an august gathering of friends, well-wishers, and family members paid tribute to Er Kula Dhar Saharia, the former chairman of the Brahmaputra Board, marking his first death anniversary. The poignant event, organized at the Mangaldai United Club, celebrated Saharia’s contributions as a prominent actor and sports organizer. Presided over by veteran sportsperson and club president Biren Medhi, the ceremony underscored Saharia’s enduring legacy in the Darrang district.
Attendees, including Mangaldai legislator and former Minister Basanta Das, shared fond memories of Saharia, highlighting his crucial role in producing the 1971 Assamese film ‘Aranya.’ This film is noted for being Assam’s first crowd-funded production, a milestone achieved by a club from the small town of Mangaldai. Speakers nostalgically recalled Saharia’s performance in the drama ‘Bhiksha’ during the 1968 Asom Natya Sanmilan one-act drama competition.
The ceremony commenced with a tribute initiated by Dhira Ghosh Sahariah, Saharia’s wife, who lit a lamp before his portrait. Club secretary Parag Kumar Deka warmly welcomed attendees, while family members, including Saharia’s son Bikram and brother Dr. Dhiren Sahariah, offered heartfelt homage. The event served as a stirring recollection of Kula Dhar Saharia’s impactful contributions to the arts and sports within the Assamese community.
Also highlighted at the event was an acknowledgment of the Heflong’s Heaven Blue Athletic Club’s ‘Plastic Picking Walk,’ an initiative aimed at combating pollution, underscoring the community’s continued focus on environmental and cultural advancements.
