Urgent Call for Unity: ISKCON Urges Global Prayer and Kirtan Amid New Arrests in Bangladesh
ISKCON has issued a global call for a “prayer for peace,” inviting devotees to join their nearest temple on December 1 for special prayers and kirtan. This initiative seeks divine protection for devotees and other religious minorities in Bangladesh. The call to prayer comes amidst growing tensions in Bangladesh following the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das, a spiritual preacher charged with sedition for hoisting a saffron flag above the national flag in Chittagong. Subsequently, two monks from ISKCON Kolkata, Adipurush Shyam Das and Ranganath Das Brahmachari, along with Das’s secretary, were also arrested. The situation escalated when rioters allegedly vandalized an ISKCON center in Bangladesh. Radha Raman, Vice President of ISKCON Kolkata, expressed feeling helpless and urged the global ISKCON community to pray for the safety of minorities in Bangladesh.
In response to these developments, India has voiced its concern over the rising extremist rhetoric and violence against minorities in Bangladesh. The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized India’s firm stance on protecting Hindus and other minorities and called for Bangladesh’s interim government to uphold its responsibilities in safeguarding these communities. The Indian government has consistently engaged with Bangladesh to address these issues and urges protective measures for minorities’ safety and interests.
