Manipur CM Biren Unleashes Bold Critique on Mizoram’s Leadership Through ‘Administrative History’ Revelation | Guwahati News
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh highlighted the state’s rich historical legacy on Saturday, emphasizing its 2,000-year-old history, which he contrasted with Mizoram’s shorter administrative past, once being a district of Assam. His remarks occurred amidst ongoing tensions between the Manipur government and the opposition in Mizoram, including comments from Mizoram CM Lalduhoma. Speaking at an event aimed at relocating Assam Rifles from Imphal’s historic Langthabal Old Palace, Singh underlined that unlike Mizoram, Manipur joined India in 1949 with its boundaries intact, asserting its long-standing identity.
In response to Lalduhoma’s recent statements, Singh advised against inciting animosity or meddling in other states’ affairs, labeling such actions as regrettable. He clarified the essential security role of the Assam Rifles, stationed in Manipur for over a century, and emphasized resolving misunderstandings through dialogue and cooperation among leaders and intellectuals.
Singh further addressed the conflict since May 3, attributing it not to governance issues but to efforts aimed at safeguarding the rights of Manipur’s original inhabitants and rectifying historical inaccuracies. He acknowledged that these protective measures might displease those previously benefiting from illegal activities, like the drug trade, potentially explaining some government opposition. His comments shed light on the state’s complex historical and socio-political landscape, aiming to clarify the current tensions and outline a path towards reconciliation and understanding.
