Urgent Plea: Manipur CM Demands Army Action to Locate Missing Man | Heartfelt Guwahati News
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has urged the Army to prioritize the search for 56-year-old Leishram Kamalbabu Singh, a Meitei man reported missing since November 25 from the 57 Mountain Division campus at Leimakhong in Kangpokpi district. Amidst ongoing tensions following the tragic killing of three women and three children in Jiribam, Singh highlighted this additional distressing issue during a media briefing in Imphal. The Chief Minister mentioned that MLA Dingo Singh and the Joint Action Committee, which was formed concerning Kamalbabu’s disappearance, recently met him to discuss the case. A memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister has also been submitted by residents from nearby areas, urging Kamalbabu’s immediate rescue and calling for accountability. Singh informed that the government has engaged military and central officials in the search, but Kamalbabu’s location remains unknown. An FIR has been filed at the Sekmai police station to assist in the investigation.
Meanwhile, the Army has already begun an extensive search operation for Kamalbabu, involving drones and combing activities in and around the Leimakhong military station as well as nearby villages. His disappearance has triggered community protests, demanding his safe return. In parallel, following recent violence in Jiribam, Chief Minister Singh has called for calm and announced that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) will probe the incident, with joint operations underway to apprehend the culprits. He emphasized the importance of cooperative efforts with the central government to restore peace and stability in the region.
The tension in Manipur highlights the urgent need for effective intervention to address both the disappearance and the broader security concerns in the state.
