Breaking: CBI Files Chargesheet in Shocking Multi-Crore Investment Scam Impacting 1.5 Lakh Helpless Investors | Guwahati Update
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet against Ranjit Kakoty in a significant investment fraud case involving Rs 260 crore. This case impacted around 150,000 investors and was initially registered at the Dibrugarh Police Station in Assam. Kakoty’s chargesheet was filed in Guwahati’s special CBI court on Friday, just a day after the agency charged three other individuals — Bishal Phukan, Sumi Bora, and Tarkik Bora — in another similar scam originating from the same police station.
The CBI began investigating 41 multi-crore scams involving online trading following a request from the state government. Despite the investigation’s complexity, the CBI concluded its probe against Kakoty within 90 days of his arrest, leading to the chargesheet filing. Using advanced forensic tools, the agency identified numerous victims defrauded by the scheme, operated under the online platform “TradingFx.” The culprits, including Kakoty, misled investors with deceptive plans and assurances, ultimately embezzling their funds for personal gain.
CBI’s investigation is ongoing, aiming to identify additional conspirators and uncover the full extent of the fraudulent activity. Kakoty’s case began with a complaint alleging he promised threefold returns on investments within 18 months but eventually stopped paying and became unreachable.
Additionally, a separate chargesheet was filed on November 18 against Monalisa Das concerning a fraud case involving the firm ‘DB Stock.’ This company, owned by Deepankar Barman and Das, reportedly swindled multiple investors nationwide.
This inquiry highlights the expansive nature of investment scams, often targeting unsuspecting individuals with false promises. The CBI’s swift action underscores its commitment to tackling financial fraud and holding perpetrators accountable. As the investigation continues, more culprits could face justice for their roles in endangering investors’ financial well-being.
