Explosive Lawsuit: Dhanush’s Furious Legal Battle Against Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan Over Netflix’s Unauthorized ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ Footage
In the ongoing legal tussle between prominent South Indian actors Nayanthara and Dhanush, tensions have escalated over the unauthorized use of film footage. Actor Dhanush has filed a civil lawsuit against Nayanthara, claiming she used scenes from their 2015 film “Naanum Rowdy Dhaan” in her Netflix documentary “Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale” without obtaining his consent. Filed in the Madras High Court, the suit also names Nayanthara’s husband, filmmaker Vignesh Sivan, as a co-defendant.
Nayanthara responded vehemently after Dhanush sent her a legal notice demanding Rs 10 crore for the unauthorized use. She took to Instagram to clarify her position, stating that she had reached out to Dhanush during the documentary’s production to seek permission, which he denied, before sending the legal notice. Wunderbar Films has moved to involve Los Gatos Production Services India LLP, a Mumbai-based entity that handles Netflix’s content investments, in the lawsuit by applying to the Madras High Court under Clause 12 of the Letters Patent. They aim to bring all parties under the court’s jurisdiction as the primary events unfolded there.
Following deliberations, the judge approved Wunderbar Films’ application to proceed with the case, allowing Los Gatos Production to be included without delving into the core issue. The court has ordered Nayanthara to respond to the lawsuit by the next hearing.
The legal battle underscores the complexities involved when merging creative ventures with legal boundaries.
