Divya Prabha’s Powerful Statement on Leaked Nude Scene from All We Imagine As Light: ‘I Don’t Need to Strip Naked for Fame’
Actor Divya Prabha recently addressed the controversy surrounding a leaked nude scene from her film “All We Imagine As Light.” In an interview with Onmanorama, Divya expressed her disappointment over the leak, calling it “really pathetic.” She revealed that she had anticipated such a response from a certain segment of the population in Kerala when she agreed to the role, as they tend to be intolerant toward Malayali women undertaking such roles. Despite this, Divya emphasized that she doesn’t require controversial scenes to gain fame, citing her award-winning performances and acclaimed filmography as proof.
Divya plays the character of Anu, a young Malayali nurse, in the film directed by Payal Kapadia. She mentioned that people should not overlook the fact that even Malayalis were part of the Central Board that approved the film, highlighting the irony in the backlash. The actor noted that only about 10 percent of the population shared the leaked videos and expressed confusion over their mindset.
Reflecting on the broader landscape, Divya criticized the double standards within her community, pointing out that while they celebrate foreign filmmakers like Yorgos Lanthimos and actresses who achieve Oscar success, they react negatively when their compatriots push similar boundaries. Nevertheless, she found hope in the younger generation, particularly the men who opposed the unauthorized distribution of the scene.
“All We Imagine As Light,” currently showing in theaters, stars Divya alongside Kani Kusruti, Chhaya Kadam, and Hridhu Haroon. The film made history by winning the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, marking it as the first Indian film to achieve this honor. It’s an official Indo-French co-production involving Petit Chaos from France, and Chalk & Cheese and Another Birth from India.
In the wake of the controversy, Divya remains steadfast in her artistic choices, assured in her decision to portray Anu in the groundbreaking film.
