Urgent Crisis on NH-37: Over 300 Vehicles Stranded, Essential Supplies in Jeopardy!
Essential Commodities and Oil Tankers Stranded on NH-37 Due to Road Blockage in Manipur
Imphal – On Tuesday, a significant transportation disruption occurred on National Highway 37 linking Imphal to Silchar via the Jiribam district in Manipur. Over 300 vehicles carrying essential commodities, including approximately 50 oil tankers, have been immobilized due to road blockage by rock debris in the Nungdalal area of Noney district. The obstruction has forced all vehicular movement to a standstill for several days.
Authorities anticipate clearing the road by Monday night, aiming to restore normal traffic flow. Among the stranded vehicles are about 150 trucks near the Noney police check post, which have been stuck for six days. These include oil tankers, LPG carriers, aviation turbine fuel carriers, and other vital commodity transporters.
Moreover, the congestion extends further along NH-37 with 50 trucks stranded at Nungba and 70 more at Kambiron, Barak. Several goods-laden trucks have also been reported stranded in Jiribam. In addition, empty trucks arriving from Imphal for rice transportation are caught at Noney, awaiting goods loaded from 29 Indian Railways bogies at Khongsang Train Station.
As this backlog affects the distribution of essential supplies, quick resolution and road clearance remain a top priority for officials to prevent further disruptions in the region’s supply chain. The local administration continues efforts to address the situation and ensure that the stranded vehicles can resume their journeys without delay.
