Exciting Cabinet Approval Ignites Hope for 186 MW Tato-I Hydro Project!
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has sanctioned Rs 1,750 crore for the Tato-I Hydro Electric Project (HEP) in Shi Yomi district, Arunachal Pradesh, aiming to boost the region’s power supply with an installed capacity of 186 megawatts. This hydroelectric project, expected to generate 802 million units of energy, is a collaboration between the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) and the Arunachal Pradesh government. The project promises significant regional benefits, including enhanced power supply, infrastructure development, and socio-economic improvements.
The central government will provide Rs 197.8 crore as financial assistance, with Rs 77.37 crore directed towards building roads, bridges, and transmission lines as part of enabling infrastructure. Arunachal Pradesh is set to receive 12% of the power generated for free, with an additional 1% allocated to local area development. The project will also bring approximately 10 kilometers of road and bridge infrastructure, benefiting the local populace.
Shi Yomi district is expected to see significant advancements with the construction of essentials such as hospitals, schools, vocational training institutes like ITIs, marketplaces, and playgrounds, financed by Rs 15 crore from dedicated project funds. The local community will benefit from employment opportunities, various compensations, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities.
The project is projected to be completed within 50 months, ushering in a host of infrastructural and economic enhancements for Arunachal Pradesh while contributing to the national power grid balance.
