Arunachal’s ‘The Trend’ & Kolkata’s Abhipriya Dazzle with Victory at Thrilling All-India K-Pop Contest 2024 Finale!
The 2024 All-India K-pop Contest, orchestrated by the Korean Cultural Centre India (KCCI), culminated in a grand spectacle at New Delhi’s Yashobhoomi International Exhibition and Convention Centre. This event, celebrating the vibrant essence of Korean culture and music, attracted K-pop enthusiasts nationwide for an electrifying evening.
In an impressive display of talent, Arunachal Pradesh’s dance crew, The Trend, clinched the top prize in the dance section, captivating the audience with Stray Kids’ “God’s Menu.” Kolkata’s Abhipriya Chakraborty triumphed in the vocal category with a soulful performance of IU’s “Love Wins All.” Both winners have earned the coveted opportunity to explore Korea and immerse themselves in its culture firsthand.
The competition also showcased remarkable talent from across India. New Delhi’s Outkasts were first runners-up in the dance category with Nmixx’s “O.O,” while Sejal Dubey from Hyderabad took second runner-up with Taemin’s “Criminal.” In vocals, New Delhi’s Bem Khuvung secured first runner-up with “Still Love You” by Lee Hong Gi and Yoo Hwe Seung, and Kohima’s Nuu Anu achieved second runner-up status with Gummy’s “You Are My Everything.”
In its 14th edition, the All-India K-pop Contest attracted its largest audience to date, with over 10,500 registrants from 11 cities, including Bengaluru, Kohima, and Mumbai. The finale featured 12 teams, selected after rigorous regional and semifinal rounds, and judged by an expert panel including former One Million Dance Studio choreographer Park Bong-Young.
Beyond the competition, attendees enjoyed cultural activities like a Vegan Kimchi-making session by Korean chef Jang Yun Jeong and a K-pop Random Play Dance led by YouTuber Go Tae-kyung. The evening was further enlivened by a high-energy performance from boy group LUN8.
In appreciation of India’s dynamic K-pop fanbase, KCCI organized giveaways, awarding round-trip tickets to Korea to fans Amisha Chettry and Elly M Swu. Director Hwang Il Yong expressed gratitude for the immense support from Indian fans, promising even grander celebrations in the coming year.
