Join the Inspirational Dia Walkathon in Theni: A Joyful Step Towards Change!
On Sunday, Nalam Hospital in Theni marked World Diabetes Day by hosting the ‘Dia Walkathon’ for individuals over 30, including those with diabetes. The event drew over 200 participants and was initiated by Superintendent of Police Shiva Prasad. To encourage community participation, cash prizes were awarded to winners and consolation prizes were distributed to all participants. A statement from the hospital highlighted the link between obesity and various health issues, including diabetes, hypertension, and cardiac diseases. Notably, losing just 10% of body weight can significantly improve diabetes management and potentially reverse its early stages. Regular exercise, particularly 150 minutes of walking per week, is recommended for diabetes control. India is notably affected, with 25% of the world’s diabetic population and one in seven Indian adults living with the condition. Since 1990, global diabetes rates have quadrupled, underscoring the critical need for preventive measures. Published – November 24, 2024, 07:56 pm IST.
